Students just beginning their career in OSH will become the leaders of tomorrow, and experienced professionals are constantly striving to expand their skills and knowledge. We support all safety professionals on their path of improvement through Professional Education Grants, the Future Safety Leaders Conference, and Next Generation Board.
The Future Safety Leaders Conference, held every November, gathers nearly 150 students from over 40 colleges and universities from across the U.S. This event brings students, OSH and top employers together for a two-day conference focused on providing tools to help students transition from student life to successful safety professionals.
Participants engage in roundtable discussions with experienced OSH professionals, gaining valuable career advice. They learn strategies from presenters on how to be an effective leader and communicator. In addition to resume critiques, public speaking and how get the most out of ASSE, representatives from sponsor companies such as, BCSP, CLMI-Safety Training, Georgia-Pacific, BCSP, Liberty Mutual Insurance, UL and URS-AECOM conduct mock interviews and set up booths where attendees could learn more about their companies.
The FSLC consists of students that are active in ASSE Student Sections, stand out from their peers and seek additional knowledge of the profession outside their classroom. Students are provided an exceptional opportunity to network with hiring organizations, develop interviewing and communication skills and instill leadership skills to future OSH professionals.
Recent attendees had the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker Dr. Daniel J. Moran on how to build Safety Commitments. Many were impacted by Dr. Moran’s quote: “I am here now, accepting my feelings and noticing my thoughts, while doing what I care about.” ASSE President-Elect, Mike Belcher challenged attendees to become the next generation of society leaders.
Applications for the 2015 Future Safety Leaders Conference will be accepted fall 2015. Interested students are required to complete an application, write an essay and obtain a reference from an academic advisor. A selection committee reviews all applicants and selects participants based on completed and outstanding submissions.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with questions about the conference.
If Future Safety Leaders and safety matters to you, please donate to the ASSE Foundation.

The Foundation’s Professional Education Grant Program provides funding to help safety professionals expand their knowledge and advance their education.
Professional Education Grants help participants in the profession move toward great success. Grants are made available to help working professionals pursuing advanced education through seminars, educational conferences, certification courses or college coursework. Grants are generally valued between $500 and $1,000. Applications are accepted September 1 through December 1 every year and must be submitted online. After applications are reviewed by the Foundation’s Scholarship Award & Selection Committee, awards are disbursed to recipients the following April. The 2017 program will begin accepting applications on September 1, 2016.
Grant recipients will be required to provide receipts of their purchases before grant awards will be disbursed.
The Next Generation Board increases awareness of the Foundation’s purpose, encourages participation in the Foundation’s programs, and cultivates intergenerational connections within the Foundation community, in support of the mission of the ASSE Foundation. The Board consists of members between the ages of 23 and 35 and will enable young Society members to support the profession while making a strategic investment in their own careers.
