Mark Ahner is a Health & Safety Risk Engineer with Zurich Insurance. Prior to joining Zurich, he was an EH&S Manager and Emergency Response Leader with experience in medical device, specialty chemical, and bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Millersville University with a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Environmental Health, with a focus on Environmental Hazards and Emergency Management. He received his Certified Safety Practitioner designation in May 2016.

Mark is the recipient of the Quarantelli award for excellence in emergency management for his undergraduate research at the University of Delaware's Disaster Research Center. Sponsored by the Department of Defense, his research analyzed individual social behaviors during the Oklahoma City Bombing.

He has been involved with the ASSE since his undergraduate years as the student chapter president, and received both the Gerry Eaker Memorial Scholarship and UPS Scholarship from the Foundation. After Graduating he stayed active with the foundation, joining the Future Safety Leaders Conference planning committee in 2013.

Mark is originally from Lehighton, Pennsylvania, and now lives in Newark, Delaware. Away from work he enjoys a wide variety outdoor hobbies.
